I HAVE NEVER USED AN EFFECTS DEVICE BEFORE SO IT IS HARD FOR ME TO COMPARE IT WITH OTHER MODELS. I FOUND THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL TO BE VERY HARD TO FOLLOW. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN MUCH SIMPLER AND IN MORE DETAIL. I PROBABLY WILL NEVER USE THIS DEVICE BECAUSE I CAN’T GET IT TO WORK PROPERLY WITH MY AMP. I ALSO GOT THE FOOT PEDAL THAT TURNS THE EFFECTS OFF AND ON. WHEN I AM PLAYING NORMALLY AND THEN STEP ON THE FOOT PEDAL, THE VOLUME IS AT LEAST 10 TIMES LOUDER. IF I SET THE EFFECTS VOLUME TO A COMFORTABLE LEVEL AND THEN TURN IT OFF THE NORMAL SOUND IS SO LOW I CAN’T HEAR IT. I LOOKED THROUGH THE MANUAL BUT FOUND NOTHING REGARDING THIS VOLUME ADJUSTMENT. IT ALSO SEEMS VERY CUMBERSOME TO EDIT SOUNDS EFFECTS.

I was faced with spending $600 on admittedly excellent sounding Electro-Harmonix or Boss pedals, or getting something like this box for well under $100. I got this, and feel it was a great decision. The sound is, as advertised, VERY high quality. Quiet, clean, instant switching, audiophile fidelity, stage and studio modes, etc. The box is very solid metal, with heavy rubber ends. The switches feel substantial. The tuner is intuitive and did not have trouble with my whole-step-down tuned Strat’s strings. My only requirement was that this unit handle what I call the “gurgles and swooshes”. As long as it did the phasing, flanging and chorusing I would be happy; nice to find it does harmonizing so well. The way it stores patches is a little convoluted, and not as convenient as a board full of individual pedals, but for the price difference I can learn a few new tricks. They are stored in linear fashion – to reach the one you want you have to click up or down to it. Also, they have cryptic geek abbreviations, like ‘A3′. Still, for the price not a deal breaker. For thickness, and to fight ‘tone suck’, I still have a tube preamp and Boss distortion (plus the swell Weeping Demon wah) to compensate, but I can’t guarantee it’ll sound as great as a guitar plugged straight into a tube amp. I would replace this in a second – most of the goodies from a giant multi-effect, reduced to the size of a slightly large single pedal?! Heck yeah.

I have tried, bought and sold many different effects pedals and the G2 Zoom is the best I have found.

Great variations of sounds from clean acoustic to weird.

The drum machine is the best, different rhythms, volume, tone, can be easily adjusted.

The box is made of metal and is solid.

Get the G2 with the four knobs it is a lot easier to set up than the other Zoom models, read the instructions and go jam.

Recently purhcased this item, and am still getting through the different settings on it. There are so many effects, and different sounds that you can get out of this machine. The drum machine built in is great for practicing with. I would recommend this to anyone novice, or professional guitarist looking to add effects. Its inexpensive, and has a multitude of effects.
